On January 9th local time, the 79th annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
This time, due to the scandal of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the broadcaster NBC decided to cancel the broadcast of the award ceremony. Several other media outlets chose not to participate, making it an unusual event with no telecast or live streaming. According to the association, only "selected members and supporting organizations" were present when the awards were announced. There was no red carpet and apparently no media was invited. Winners can be found on the Golden Globe Awards social media pages.
Notable is the non-English film award. The Japanese film "Drive My Car" starring Hidetoshi Nishijima won the award. This feat is the first in 62 years since Kon Ichikawa's "The Key", which won the Best Foreign Language Film award at the 17th Golden Globe Awards ceremony.
The Netflix work "Power of the Dog" won the drama category award for the movie. And in the Comedy/Musical category, Best Picture went to Steven Spielberg's West Side Story.
On television, HBO won both of the awards, with "King of Media" winning Best Drama and "Hacks" winning Best Comedy/Musical.
