On November 20, 2019, Porsche Japan unveiled the brand's first fully electric sports car "Taikan" for the first time in Japan, and from the same day "Limited time Taikan Reservation Program" has started.
At the press conference, Michael Kirsch, president of Porsche Japan, took the stage to introduce himself. The new president, who has just celebrated his 100th day in office, declares that the Taikan will become a new standard in the automobile industry, which is said to be a once-in-a-century period of major change.
The new Porsche "Tycan", which is a fully electric EV, is also a sports car that takes a big step in the new era while inheriting the tradition of Porsche, such as the exterior that was influenced by the 911 and the instrument panel of the first 911.
The motors are arranged one by one in the front and back, and although it is an EV, the “Taikan Turbo S” with “Turbo” in the car name demonstrates a maximum of 761ps and clears 0-100 acceleration in 2.8 seconds. It boasts a dynamic performance.
In addition, the cruising range reaches a maximum of 463km with the "Taikan 4S" (cruising range conforms to WLTP). What's more, the reliability that can stably demonstrate such high performance even under harsh conditions is ensured, and the time difference when repeating 0-200 km / h acceleration 26 times is suppressed to less than 1 second. yes. The rival Tesla Model S has a 0-100km/h acceleration of 2.6 seconds and a WLTP mode of 610km.
There are also innovations in the electrified drivetrain. Equipped with two permanent magnet synchronous motors, an 800V system that achieves the world's highest level of high-speed charging, and a 2-speed transmission built into the rear wheel motor.
Charging method is also a topic, and in order to take advantage of Taycan's overwhelming high-speed charging performance, Porsche Japan will install a quick charger compatible with next-generation CHAdeMO (Chademo) at Porsche centers and public facilities nationwide. The charging output is 150 kW, the most powerful in Japan, and has the ability to charge the Taycan's on-board battery to 80% within 30 minutes. Of course, it also supports normal charging at home.
In addition, we have not neglected to respond to the digital age, such as always connecting to the Internet. The meter cluster located in front of the driver is a Porsche first, fully digital, and features a moderately curved 16.8-inch large display for optimal visibility.
There is a 10.9-inch center display in the center of the dashboard, and there is also a new operating system that allows direct access to all functions from the home screen. A 10.9-inch display is available as an option in front of the front passenger seat, exclusively for passengers in the navigation seat. It has an easy-to-use and convenient interface environment for all passengers.
Equipped with voice control that allows you to operate various functions through voice and "Porsche Connect", a connected function that allows you to check the locking status of the doors and parking position from your smartphone. In addition, "Apple Music" is also installed, so anyone with a subscription can enjoy more than 50 million songs in the car by operating the in-vehicle touch screen without connecting their smartphone. By the way, Taikan will be the world's first car that incorporates Apple Music as a vehicle function.
In addition, one of the features is the commitment to materials as consideration for the environment. Aluminum, which is lightweight and easy to recycle, is used for 37% of the body, and OLEA, a club leather that uses olive leaves, an organic material, in the tanning process is available as an option for the seat. In addition, the microfiber material "Race-Tex", which uses recycled fibers to reduce CO2 emissions by 80% during production, is also available. The floor cover uses Econyl, a recycled fiber, to reduce the burden on the global environment.
The new Porsche Taycan will be introduced in Japan in the second half of 2020.
