MUSIC HACK DAY is a music-themed hackathon that started in London and Boston in 2012. In addition to London and Boston, the event has been held in 20 cities in 13 countries, including Paris, New York, Helsinki, Toronto, Stockholm, and Cannes. It started in Tokyo in 2014, and this is the 4th time. According to the MUSIC HACK DAY Tokyo 2019 secretariat, there is no global organizer, and ``If you agree with this purpose, you can use the name MUSIC HACK DAY and logo and hold it all over the world. Yes, it is." It seems to be common all over the world to provide places, meals, equipment, etc. without taking participation fees from participants.
Of course, we need a budget and a place for that, but we gather sponsors and raise them from there. In addition to LINE, which provided the venue as a sponsor, companies such as Recochoku, Sony Music, TuneCoreJapan, Amazon, Tsukumo, etc. were participating.
Partner CompaniesThese sponsor companies also provided equipment rentals and APIs. Specifically, VR equipment such as VIVE PRO, Oculus Go, Gear VR, motion capture tools such as PERCEPTION NEURON PRO, APIs such as LINE's various Messaging APIs, Clova Extension Kit, Recochoku's lyrics search API, etc. However, it was not essential to use these, and it was in the form that the members who developed could use them if necessary.
In fact, when you go to the site, you can see a lot of people. I often cover the sound system hackathon site, but after all there are not a few regular engineers who attack the sound system, and such people have gathered here. However, this time the theme is somewhat abstract. It's about "updating your musical expression with technology," and there are no restrictions on using specific equipment or using designated APIs. "The concept is to use technology to update existing musical expressions. I think there will be more products that use VR and motion capture," said a staff member of the secretariat on the first day of the hackathon. .
It is said that more than 80 people had originally applied, but the number of actual participants was less than 50, probably because the participation fee was free. On the morning of the first day, the gathered members gave a presentation on what they wanted to do, and based on that, they were divided into teams. In the end, we divided into 13 teams, including a one-person team, and started development. Apart from these 13 teams, there was an exhibition team called out by the secretariat. That is a three-person development team centered around Yoshimoto Creative Agency's YouTuber Marina Fujiwara. Mr. Fujiwara is a YouTuber who develops a video blog that makes useless and trivial things with the theme of "making waste". That's why Mr. Fujiwara was invited to develop works in the world of music and sound. However, the exhibition team is not subject to judging, and the judges will decide the highest award from among the 13 teams gathered from the general public, and three of the sponsoring companies will give their respective awards.
