Compared to used cars, new cars are still expensive to buy. Some of them come with the latest equipment, but if you buy them anyway, you want to ride for as long as possible.
So how many years do people who buy a new car actually ride?
Nile, which operates a fixed-price car leasing "Advantageous private car fixed-price carmo-kun," targets 1,139 men and women nationwide who have bought new cars, and asks "how much will you ride in a new car?" Conducted a survey on "timing".
As a result, it was found that the number of years to ride a new car is often "13 years or more" or "10 years", and the number of years that I think is the best time to change trains is "10 years" and "5 years".
This survey was conducted in the form of an Internet questionnaire between July 16th and July 28th, 2021.
In the questionnaire, we first asked 1,139 men and women nationwide who had bought a new car how many years they had (or are planning to) a new car. The results are as follows (valid responses: 1051).
1st place: "13 years or more" 17.1% (180 people) 2nd place: "10 years" 16.6% (174 people) 3rd place: "5 years" 11.6% (122 people) 4th place: "3 years" 8.5% ( 89) 5th place: "7 years" 7.8% (82 people) 6th place: "2 years" 6.6% (69 people) 7th place: "Other" 31.8% (335 people)
As mentioned above, there are many people who say "13 years or more" or "10 years", and when buying a new car, it turned out that many people ride for a long period of time.
Next, we asked 354 people who answered that they would be riding a new car for 10 years or more for the reason. The result is as follows.
1st place: "Because I can still ride" 30.0% 2nd place: "I have an attachment / I like it" 27.2% 3rd place: "Because I don't have money" 20.4% 4th place: "Because the mileage is short" 7.8% 5th place : "Because I don't have the car I want" 6.8% 6th place: "Because it's easy to ride" 1.8% 7th place: "Other" 6.0%
The fact that many respondents said "I can still ride" or "I have an attachment / I like it" means that there are many users who value the car they bought with a new car or have been attached to it for a long time.
On the other hand, from the answer "I don't have money" in 3rd place, I can see that many people have been riding for a long time for financial reasons.
In the questionnaire, I also asked what happened after I finished riding the new car. The result is as follows.
1st place: "I bought a new car" 69.6% 2nd place: "I bought a used car" 18.0% 3rd place: "I stopped riding" 9.2% 4th place: "I made a car lease" 1.7% 5th place: "Other" 1.5%
The overwhelming majority was "I bought a new car" at 69.6%. From this, it can be seen that many people who were in a new car will continue to choose a new car.
In addition, when asked how many years it would be best to switch to a new car, the following results were obtained (valid responses: 871).
1st place: "10 years" 24.6% (214 people) 2nd place: "5 years" 21.6% (188 people) 3rd place: "13 years or more" 9.2% (80 people) 4th place: "3 years" 9.1% (1st place) 79) 5th place: "7 years" 8.7% (76 people) 6th place: "Other" 26.8% (234 people)
As a result, while many respondents said that they would ride a new car for 10 years or more, many respondents said that the ideal transfer timing was "5 years", which is earlier than that, indicating that there is a slight gap between the ideal and the reality.
In addition, the survey asks why they think about the ideal transfer timing that they answered above. The result is as follows.
1st place: "Because I want to use it for a long time" 21.3% 2nd place: "Because breakdowns start to appear" 17.7% 3rd place: "Because it is the timing of vehicle inspection / loan" 13.6% 4th place: "Because I can ride" 12.0% 5th place: " "Because the trade-in price is high" 11.5% 6th place: "Because the car you want comes out" 9.1% 7th place: "Because you don't have money" 8.1% 8th place: "Other" 6.7%
21.3% of the top respondents, "I want to use it for a long time," said, "I want to ride for as long as possible," "I should cherish things," "I feel attached to them," and "I want to ride for a long time because they are expensive." It is called Ta.
In addition, 17.7% of the 2nd place "Because breakdowns start to appear" had opinions such as "Various malfunctions start to occur", "Failures appear", and "Lifetime".
It is said that 13.6% of the 3rd place "Because of the timing of vehicle inspection / loan" had opinions such as "Vehicle inspection is just right in 5 years", "Time when loan ends" and "Installment payment relationship".
Furthermore, among "others", there were answers such as "because 10 years is a break" and "environmentally friendly".
Finally, the questionnaire asked about how many years the life of a new car should be considered. There were 852 valid responses, and the results were as follows.
1st place: "13 years or more" 37.2% (317 people) 2nd place: "10 years" 32.5% (277 people) 3rd place: "5 years" 5.9% (50 people) 4th place: "3 years" 4.6% ( 39) 5th place: "12 years" 3.2% (27 people) 6th place: "Other" 16.6% (142 people)
"13 years or more" is 37.2%, "10 years" is 32.5%, and 69.7% think that it is 10 years or more, which is an overwhelming majority. From this, it seems that many people think that a new car has a long life and can be driven for a long time.
The Nile surveyed this time describes these results as follows.
"It turns out that many people who have purchased a new car will ride it for 10 years or more, and many think that the life of the new car will be 10 years or more. It is environmentally friendly to ride the same car for a long time. I think that it will also contribute to the realization of a sustainable society that the SDGs are aiming for. "
Certainly, it is said that recent cars have a longer life. In fact, according to the Automobile Inspection & Registration Information Association, the average age of passenger cars (excluding light vehicles) in Japan is 8.72 years in Reiwa 2 (2020).
The average age means the average of the years that have passed since the first registration of the vehicle with the license plate. According to the results of this survey, many people ride for 10 years or more, which is even longer, but it is close to the actual national average.
By the way, after 11 years for diesel cars and 13 years for gasoline cars and light cars from the first year registration, the automobile tax classification rate to be paid will be higher every year (the detailed tax amount differs depending on the displacement, so the place of residence Please contact the prefecture).
In addition, in the case of automobile weight tax paid at the time of vehicle inspection, it will increase in two stages of 13 years and 18 years (detailed tax amount varies depending on vehicle weight, so please contact the Land Transport Office for details) ..
Furthermore, as mentioned in the answers to the questionnaire, the older the product, the more replacement parts will be due to breakdowns, etc., and the maintenance cost generally tends to be higher.
Even so, the fact that many people ride for 10 or 13 years or more may be the idea that even if the maintenance cost is a little high, it is cheaper than buying a new car.
In particular, recently, the purchase price of new cars has skyrocketed, for example, the starting price of new cars for mini cars has increased to more than 2 million yen, and the purchase price of new cars has increased to more than 3 million yen for compact cars.
Of course, many people are attached to the car they have been riding for many years, but many people want to ride it for as long as possible because it is expensive.
